Centre Stage is my online home. I'm an arts journalist and freelance writer based in Surrey, BC who specializes in writing about dance and theatre, but loves everything to do with the arts.

Here you'll find reviews of all the most recent shows I've seen, interviews with actors and musicians, and other writings on arts and culture. Oh, and some travel writing thrown in as well.

In my day job I work at Simon Fraser University, and I am also an alumna of SFU - BA in English and French literatures with a minor in publishing. I also tutor students of all ages in English and French.

So what else should you know about me? I'm pro Oxford comma, I'm left handed, and since I started this website, I've gotten married and added another last name. Don't worry though, I'll answer to Perkins, Deneault, or Perkins Deneault.

I have written about music, books, film, comedy, visual art, food, and travel, and my published works have appeared in Dance International, The Peak, Press+1,The Canadian Film Review, The Source, Citysoup.ca, and the Earthsaver Newsletter. While at Press+1, I was Managing Editor for four years and I was the Arts Editor at The Peak for two years. I love writing about the arts because it allows me to savour the moment as it's happening and then relive it when I sit down to write. I also enjoy interviewing artists to find out the motivation and inspiration behind their creations.

When I'm not working on my many writing projects, I'm most likely pursuing one of my other interests including environmental issues, politics, travel, or dance and yoga.

Thanks for visiting.

- Tessa Perkins Deneault
